Tag Heuer loves a creative partnership with other brands to transform their classic and highly desired timepieces so this latest collaboration which sees Nintendo hero Mario take centre stage on its watches is a no-brainer.
TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph) is powered by the automatic Calibre 16 movement and is limited to just 3000 timepieces. It sits in a 44-mm steel case jam-packed with references to the world-famous racing game with the Mario Kart logo inscribed on the black polished ceramic tachymeter bezel, the 2 o’clock pusher and crown are circled with an iconic red Mario M symbol. The Mario Kart logo is also engraved on the dedicated screwed-down case back along with his outline in a race kart.
The watch dial features a black and anthracite checkered pattern inspired by the racetrack and custom asphalt textured sub-counters with Mario appearing in the 9 o’clock permanent seconds indicator which is circled in red. Easter eggs are aplenty on the watch too including the date window that will regularly intersperse Mario Kart items including Bullet Bill, the Banana and more, in lieu of the actual date number.
While the “Haute Horlogerie” piece of this collab is the TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph Tourbillon) which is limited to only 250 pieces. The larger 45-mm case is made of high-performance grade 5 titanium with a custom case back in sapphire glass featuring the Mario Kart logo, which TAG Heuer’s high precision COSC-certified Calibre Heuer 02T movement can be fully appreciated. The tourbillon cage was redesigned to showcase Mario in his kart, the Spiny Shell and Bullet Bill moving in rhythm with the complication.
Available from 20 October 2022, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph) will set you back $4,300 while the TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph Tourbillon) will cost $25,600 and will be sold exclusively in TAG Heuer boutiques and online.
