Maserati and Alfa Romeo working together to build a super-GT

Maserati is plotting to team up with fellow Stellantis stablemate, Alfa Romeo, to develop a supercar-quick limited-run GT that will rival the likes of the latest Ferrari 12Cilindri and Aston Martin Vanquish.

Mirroring its arrangement with Alfa that spun-off the MC20-based 33 Stradale this time, according to Autocar, the new super-GT will be based on the Maserati GranTurismo.

Set to be launched as soon as early next year, the new two-door coupe is primed to be powered by Maserati’s state-of-the-art Netunno twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6.

There are no details on how much power the Maserati-Alfa creation will produce but it’s thought to receive a huge boost over the 471kW and 720Nm of torque the latest Maserati GT2 Stradale produces.

Surprisingly, according to engineering boss, Davide Danesin, the super-GT will shun electrification and gain the option of a traditional manual transmission.

Confirming it will be made as part of a limited run of models, Danesin went on to say the new super-GT would be a “purely mechanical car”.

Set to be released to celebrate Maserati’s 100th anniversary of its first car, the Tipo 26 racer, it’s been tipped the sister car to the Maserati super-GT, that will be branded an Alfa Romeo, could honour the 6C 1500 that celebrates its centenary in 2027.

It’s not known how many of each Maserati or Alfa Romeo super GTs both firms plan to make but expect a big premium over the $699,000 (plus on-roads) Maserati charges for its GT2 Stradale.
