The model that is primed to become the top-selling Maserati of all time, the 2022 Maserati Grecale, will be unveiled in all its glory in Milano on November 16.
In announcing the reveal date for the all-new mid-size SUV overnight, the Italian car-maker said the “countdown to the discovery of the new model bearing the name of an intense, revolutionary and exceptional wind has … officially begun”.
We have, of course, been waiting more than a year to see the Grecale uncovered, after it was officially previewed in September last year.
It was also promised a year before that, in September 2019, when Maserati detailed plans for an all-new SUV to slot in below the Maserati Levante and go head-to-head with the Porsche Macan and BMW X3, among other premium sports-luxury medium SUVs.
This year, Maserati showed camouflaged Grecale in a variety of different settings and confirmed details such as a high-performance Trofeo model joining the range.
As we’ve reported, the Grecale is built on the same Giorgio platform as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which will share its production line in Cassino, Italy, with Maserati’s newest member.
Just as Volkswagen has named various models after winds (Golf, Polo, Passat, Bora, Jetta, Scirocco), Maserati too says the Grecale maintains the company’s own “long-standing practice of naming its cars after the world’s most famous winds”.
“It all started in 1963, with the legendary Mistral. This was followed by Ghibli, Bora and Khamsin. And, in 2016 with Levante, the brand’s first SUV,” the company said.
“An explosion of colours anticipates the power of a new breeze. Grecale is a wind that turns the everyday into something exceptional and will blow across the Maserati range.”
We now have less than eight weeks to count down before the covers finally blow off.
