A pair of new special-edition Maserati MC20 supercars have been produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Italian car-maker’s return to motorsport with the Enzo-derived MC12.
The limited-editions in question are the 2024 Maserati MC20 Icona and the 2024 Maserati MC20 Leggenda, which are directly inspired by the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone respectively and finished in special liveries with edition-specific appointments.
The Icona wears the colours of the 2004 Maserati MC12 Stradale that itself took inspiration from the iconic Maserati Birdcage Type 61 racer of the 1950s and ’60s with its white and blue two-tone colour scheme.
“The Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Audace stands out on the side of the livery, in the lower part near the rear wheels, with the Italian flag logo positioned on the door under the MC20 lettering,” said Maserati designers.
“In the middle of the chrome-plated wheels, with the specific Trident design, the hubcaps are silver with the Trident logo in contrasting blue.
“The brake callipers are also painted blue, the mirrors come with an auto-dimming feature and the engine cover is made of carbon fibre.”
The MC20 Leggenda, meantime, pays homage to the Spa 24 Hour-conquering MC12 GT1 raced by the Vitaphone Racing team and wears special black wheels with ‘Trident Digital Mint’ centre caps, black brake callipers and yellow Trident logos on the grille, doors and C-pillar.
Both MC20 special-editions feature lightweight monocoque racing seats with Trident embroidery on the head restraints, alongside the words ‘Icona’ or ‘Leggenda’ depending on the model.
Also standard are matching engine covers, a Sonus faber sound system, carbon-fibre interior package, electronic limited-slip differential, suspension lifter, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring systems, and unique mats throughout.
Just 20 examples of each edition are being made and Maserati has chosen not to announce a list price. For reference, the standard MC20 is priced from $510,000 plus on-road costs.
