DaimlerChrysler has confirmed that the latest addition to the Maybach model line-up, the newly developed 57 Special, will be available in Australia from mid-2006.
The luxurious Maybach brand first made an appearance in Australia in 2003 and since then eight customers have taken delivery of either a Maybach 57 or Maybach 62.
The new 57 S responds to demands for a more athletic Maybach. Consequently its 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine has been 'breatehed on' by Mercedes-Benz's own hotroad haus AMG. The result is a power output of 450kW, while its 1000Nm of torque (electronically limited) is available over a wider engine speed range between 2000-4000rpm.
The 57 S also features a firmer suspension set-up.
DaimlerChrysler says this combination makes: "the Maybach 57 S the ideal high-end luxury saloon for enthusiastic owner-drivers seeking the very latest high-performance technology. With acceleration from standstill to 100km/h in only five seconds, the new Maybach S impressively demonstrates its outstanding per-formance potential."
Other changes to the 57 S are aimed at giving the car a more dynamic persona. They include an exclusive monochrome colour scheme featuring special black or silver paint finishes, a modified front section with an enhanced radiator grille and revised light units, 57 S badging, as well revised rear apron with twin trapezoidal exhausts.
