Mazda has announced it has completed its first factory restoration of a customer's MX-5.
Launched last year in August, according to the car maker, the offer of restoring its small roadster was so oversubscribed, the Hiroshima-based firm had to choose from over 600 applications.
The lucky owner to be offered the factory-backed fully-certified restoration was retired tomato farmer Keiji Nishimoto.
His 1992 British Racing Green V-Special Eunos-badged roadster, was the first car to undergo a full rebuild and return to the original factory specification, using OEM parts.

The only aftermarket parts that escaped the full restoration treatment were the front strut bar and the limited-slip differential.
According to its delighted owner the freshened-up MX-5 is now good for another 25 years of driving.
For now, the German TUV Rheinland approved and certified restoration program is only available for Japanese customers but Mazda is expected to eventually expand the offer for its European and American customers in the near future.
It's not known if there's any plans to offer the service to Australian owners.
