Mazda is bracing for a healthy injection of stock during December that should see waiting times for most models largely eliminated – except for the Mazda MX-5, which could take up to 18 months to arrive.
The Japanese brand says supply of the Mazda2, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-5, CX-8, CX-9 and BT-50 has been steadily improving over the past couple of months to the point where new orders can now be filled in weeks rather than months.
“Incoming arrivals across our most popular model lines in the month of December mean that customers who place an order now could also receive their vehicle by Christmas,” a Mazda Australia spokesperson said in a statement.
“Alternatively, customers wishing to wait until the new year can be confident that vehicle availability will continue to remain high across these models.”
Mazda MX-30 stock is also healthy, but the same can’t be said for the Mazda3 small car, Mazda CX-30 compact SUV or the MX-5 sports car.
Demand for all three models remains high, with prospective customers encouraged to “consult with their dealer to confirm availability and delivery times for their desired specification”.
We did exactly that, and dealers around the country nominated a one-to-three-month wait on most 2.5-litre Mazda3 and CX-30 variants and up to a seven-month wait for the 2.0-litre versions – depending on the grade, colour and area of delivery.
That’s nowhere near as long as the 10-18 months’ wait being advised for the MX-5, with the longest times belonging to the hard-top Mazda MX-5 RF variants.
Our dealer sources didn’t reveal the cause of the delays, but carsales understands the majority stem from ongoing production setbacks due to component shortages, combined with strong buyer demand.
Nonetheless, Mazda Australia says its general vehicle stock levels are starting to return to pre-pandemic levels, which is good news for buyers and positions the brand well against rivals that are still struggling with prolonged wait times due to limited supply.
