Mazda Oz confirms 2 sedan

Booted Mazda2 joins Japanese brand's top-selling light-car line-up

Mazda Australia will later this year offer a sedan version of its smallest model for the first time in five years.

Now officially due on sale here later this year, new Mazda2 sedan was first seen last November.

It will join the third-generation Mazda2 hatch range, which has found 6128 Australian customers since its launch here the same month, including more than 4000 in the first quarter of this year, making it Australia's top-seling light-car to March this year.

Like its hatchback sibling, Mazda2 sedan will be available with two 1.5 litre petrol engines and two six-speed transmissions.

The standard SKYACTIV-G petrol engine delivers 79kW/139Nm, the more powerful high-spec four offers 81kW/141Nm and fuel consumption is as low as 4.9L/100km.

As with the hatch, Mazda says Smart City Brake Support will be available as an option across the sedan range.

“When we first saw the design for the Mazda2 sedan we decided it was a must-have car," said Mazda Australia managing director, Martin Benders.

"Often B-segment sedans can lack style and design flow, but we believe the Mazda2 sedan is the best looking of its type in its segment. Having a stylish sedan on sale alongside a sporty hatch provides even more choice to light car buyers.”
