Mazda is launching the Mazda2 (AKA 'Demio') sedan at the 5th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition, which is based in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou and runs from November 20-26.
Built at the Changan Ford joint venture plant at Nanjing, the Mazda2 sedan will go on sale in China during the first half of next year. It will join the five-door hatch versions, which are due in Chinese showrooms January of next year. As for the sedans, the hatches are also built in China.
If sold in Australia, the sedan would further boost sales of Mazda's light car range, with sales of the new model placing it just behind the Suzuki Swift last month and almost within striking distance of the segment's second-best seller, the Hyundai Getz.
A sedan variant in the range could also be counted on to whittle away sales of Toyota's Yaris, itself available in both hatch and sedan styles and currently leading the light car segment by a massive margin.
