Mazda recalls Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3 and CX-5

237,000 of Mazda's most popular vehicles recalled due to faulty tailgate struts

Mazda Australia has issued recall notices for the Mazda3 (BL) Hatchback, Mazda6 (GH) Hatchback, Mazda6 (GH) Wagon, Mazda6 (GJ) Wagon, CX-3 (DK) and CX-5 (KE) models.

According to the importer, the affected vehicles have been sprayed with paint that, in the right conditions, can erode and cause the gas struts on the vehicle's tailgate to fail.

Mazda has said: "In the worst case scenario, people nearby may be at risk of injury from components dislodged by the pressurised gas contained in the Liftgate Stay Damper (strut)."

Mazda Australia will be contacting all owners of the subject vehicles by mail in the near future, as replacement parts become available.

When customers do receive the letter they should present their car to their preferred Mazda dealer so the 'Liftgate Stay Dampers' (struts) can be replaced at no charge to the customer.

Any consumers who require further information about the recall can contact Mazda's Customer Support team on 1800 034 411.
