A gathering of no fewer than 683 MX-5s in the Netherlands has set a new world record for the longest parade of driving Mazdas ever.
The 2013 ‘MAX-5’ event at Lelystad on June 15 resulted in a new entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for the “largest parade of Mazda cars”.
Almost 700 privately owned MX-5s joined the procession on roads around the RDW Test Centre at Lelystad, shattering the previous record of 459 MX-5s set in Essen, Germany in 2010.
Leading the parade was a third-generation (NC) MX-r racecar driven by Dutch TV presenter Allard Kalff and passengered by Mazda Motor Europe President and CEO, Jeff Guyton.
Guyton was presented with an official certificate from Guinness World Records adjudicator Pravin Patel after the successful attempt.
The MX-5 roadster also holds the title of the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car, with more than 900,000 examples sold since 1989. An all-new MX-5 is due to be released by 2015.
