Mazda3 upgraded for 2010

Mazda has dropped the prices for its small-car range, but enhanced the standard equipment

The VFACTS small-car segment provided Mazda with an unwelcome surprise last month. While the Mazda3 had narrowly outsold segment champ, the Toyota Corolla, the Mazda was itself overtaken by the Hyundai i30. Never one to let a competitor walk all over it, Mazda has come back fighting this month with significant upgrades to its volume-seller in the small-car segment.

Just a matter of months after Mazda announced tariff-related price cuts for the range, the changes to the 2010 model Mazda3 are equipment related, with entry-level Neo sedan and hatch models now offered with improved safety, thanks to the standard fitment of front side-impact and curtain airbags. Cruise control and steering wheel-mounted audio controls are also standard fitment, all of which previously incurred a $1000 charge for an option pack specified for the base model Mazda3 Neo.

Significantly for Mazda, the addition of six airbags as standard on all models means the entire Mazda3 small car range can now boast five-star ANCAP ratings.
Next in line from the entry-level Neo is the Mazda3 Maxx, which gains fog lamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather gear shift knob. The price has also been dropped by $485 to sweeten the deal. See below for the full price list.

Dual-zone climate control has been added to the Mazda3 Maxx Sport and Mazda3 Diesel models, which again comes bundled with a price cut of $485.

The luxury model in the range, Mazda3 SP25, is already kitted out with almost everything on the options list, but also benefits from the $485 price cut.

"New Generation Mazda3 has been widely recognised by Australian consumers as offering tremendous value since its launch last year," said Doug Dickson, Mazda Australia's Managing Director.

"Through the addition of new features and reduced prices, we are very pleased to be able to offer a Mazda3 that is now even better value," added the Mazda MD.

Mazda3 Maxx - $

23,755
Mazda3 Maxx Sport - $
