McLaren 570S Spider here 2017

Baby Macca droptop arrives in 2017 following launch of more spacious, luxurious 570S GT

McLaren’s product timings for the new 570S have been leaked by a McLaren insider, confirming the droptop version of the entry-level Sport Series supercar will be on sale in 2017.

Both the news of the timings, plus the confirmation of the expected GT model have been revealed by a company source to British magazine, Autocar.

As well as timings for the new droptop Spider, the McLaren employee confirmed it will be powered by the same 419kW/600Nm 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo as the 570S.

Despite the addition of an electric folding hardtop the new Spider is only expected to weigh in around 40kg heavier than the Coupe, at just 1350kg. Performance for the 570S Spider is expected to almost match the Coupe’s 0-100km/h dash of 3.2 seconds, while its 328km/h top speed will remain almost identical.

As well as the Spider it has been revealed that McLaren will also offer an all-new body style in 2016, based on the British R8 rival. Called the 570S GT the new model is said to have been created as a more spacious and practical supercar that’s been designed for long distance cruising.

The 570S GT will also be powered by the same 570S twin-turbo V8 but will come with additional storage space and a more luxurious interior.

It’s not known how much McLaren will charge for the 570S GT, but pricing for the Spider is expected to attract a premium of around $40,000, which would mean Down Under the 570S Spider could start at around $450,000 – only $9000 cheaper than what the British car maker charges for the 650S.
