McLaren 600LT Spider Segestria Borealis by MSO unveiled

Long name, longer list of detailed MSO changes for drop-top Macca that's definitely not suitable for arachnophobes

McLaren is celebrating the end of 600LT Spider production with a special ultra-limited edition of its hard-core roadster.

Just 12 of the McLaren 600LT Spider Segestria Borealis by MSO will be made and, as the long name suggests, the exclusive run of McLaren roadsters has been created by the car-maker's in-house bespoke division.

Said to have been inspired by the venomous spider, the Segestria Florentina, the McLaren 600LT borrows its striking colour scheme from the spider's green fangs.

The stripes, painted in McLaren Napier green, run from nose to tail and highlight the top pipes and rear diffuser blades, aero elements and brake calipers, and reappear on the mirror door caps and rear spoiler which both feature spiderweb graphics.

The McLaren's dark paint, if you're wondering, is called Borealis Black MSO and was defined and created for the car. Depending on the light, the special 600LT looks dark green or purple 'with claret undertones', says McLaren.

As well as the unique paint and garish green stripes, all 12 cars also come with the car-maker's MSO Clubsport Pack that adds the McLaren Senna's superlight carbon-fibre bucket seats.

Lighter titanium wheel bolts and gloss carbon-fibre front fender louvre extractors are also part of the upgrades.

Inside, McLaren's special ops team has decorated the cabin with bright green stitching and webbing for the seats, head restraints and steering wheel.

There's also an uprated Bowers and Wilkens sound system and McLaren's Track Telemetry pack, rear-view camera, parking sensors and a nose lift function.

Under the rear boot lid the 600LT Spider Spider – as it's been affectionately nicknamed – comes powered with the standard car's twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8.

Producing an identical 441kW and 620Nm of torque, the lightweight track-suited roadster can reach 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds, topping out at 323km/h with the roof up or a blustery 315km/h with it down.

It's not known what price premium McLaren is set to charge over the hefty $496,000 price of the regular 600LT but, sadly, if you're in the market for an arachnid-inspired McLaren you'll have to give MSO a call and commission your own.

All 12 McLaren 600LT Spider Segestria Borealis by MSO cars are destined for the US market.
