The McLaren 765LT has touched down in Australia, with the British supercar marque confirming that its most powerful ‘Longtail’ yet is priced from $609,650 plus on-road costs.
This is in line with the $600,000 ballpark McLaren told us to expect when we drove the ballistic new 765LT around the UK’s Silverstone racetrack in September last year, ahead of first deliveries of the small batch allocated to Australia from the global production run of 765 units.
As we’ve reported, the entire production run is already spoken for, so while the pricing is academic the excitement is still palpable as the McLaren 765LT hits Australian roads as Britain’s answer to the mighty Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
Based on the McLaren 720S, which is $120K more affordable at $489,900 plus ORCs, the track-honed 765LT brings increased performance, a more driver-focused cockpit, reduced weight and more on-board technology for the significant extra outlay.
Power for McLaren’s most extreme Super Series model to date comes from the familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that in this case produces 563kW – 36kW more than in the 720S – and 800Nm of torque (+30Nm).
It’s also 80kg lighter than the supercar on which it’s based, tipping the scales at just 1339kg.
That combination is said to push the McLaren 765LT from 0-100km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds, before sending it on to 300km/h in 18.0sec and a 330km/h top speed.
Braking hardware is borrowed from the McLaren Senna, while improved aerodynamics, forged alloy pistons, higher fuel flow system and updates to the ECU are all said to aid in the increased performance of the 765LT.
“The ‘Longtail’ lineage is a very special one within the McLaren brand and we are delighted to welcome the 765LT to Australia,” said McLaren’s Asia Pacific and China managing director, George Biggs.
“The very essence of this supercar is to question the rules of traditional engineering, challenge the parameters of performance and engagement, and push the boundaries further than we ever have before.
“With only 765 units available, the 765LT will deliver an immersive sensory experience with the purest possible connection between driver and car.”
Marking the 765LT supercar’s arrival in Australia, McLaren has released a collection of photographs taken by Studio Chris Fox at ‘Interchange Pavilion’ in Sydney, an innovative location that’s said to ‘push boundaries’ just like the new McLaren.
