McLaren announces two new 570S racers

British supercar maker shows off new race car based on baby Macca and teases its ultimate track day car

McLaren has shown off a new race car based on its latest 570S supercar and has announced an even faster racer for wealthy track day enthusiasts.

Both are based on the smallest Sport Series coupe, the 570S GT4 and the 570S Sprint that’s set to be revealed soon, and both are built around the road car’s carbon-fibre monocoque chassis.

Revealing just the GT4, the first of the two racers has been built and developed for customer teams to compete in this year’s nine-round British GT Championship.

Built to GT4-specification, hence the name, the 570S GT4 sports a new wide-body and magnesium alloy wheels with slick Pirelli tyres, plus a complete new aero that complies with the race series’ rules.

That means it gets new underbody air bending devices and a huge high-level rear wing and large front splitter to increase downforce. Extra brake vents and new radiator ducts help cooling.

Suspension is race-spec two-way adjustable dampers and coilover springs with the additional benefit of on-board air jacks for faster tyre changes.

Inside, there’s the usual FIA-approved roll-cage and fire extinguisher.

Power comes from the road car’s twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 that retains its seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The 570S GT4’s first appearance will be at Britain’s Brands Hatch race circuit on April 16.

In the UK, the GT4-spec 570S is priced from $300,000.

The 570S Sprint (that isn’t pictured) hasn’t been created for any specific competition category.

Instead, it’s been built and developed as a dedicated track day tool. That means it won’t be restricted by any power caps or limitations on how much aero is allowed.

McLaren says it will reveal its vision of the ultimate track day tool in the “coming weeks”.
