British supercar specialist McLaren used last weekend’s Singapore F1 Grand Prix to unveil a Fire Black SGP Edition MP4-12C, of which just three examples will be built and sold – priced at a whopping $1.28m SGD (just over $1m in our money).
Asking over a million bucks for an MP4-12C (which costs half that price in standard form) seems crazy but, according to reports, two out of the three cars are already spoken for.
Although mechanically unchanged (there’s no information to suggest otherwise), the Fire Black Singapore Edition is coated in, you guessed it, Fire Black paint with special Rocket Red and silver accents, mimicking the livery of the McLaren Formula 1 cars.
The low-volume special is also distinguished by unique front and rear fascias and ultra-lightweight 10-spoke alloys.
The car, which was developed by McLaren Special Operations, also features Singapore Edition badges on the interior, Alcantara-covering for the seats and steering wheel, plus Rocket Red finishes for the climate controls and instrument cluster surround.
Sounds like a lot of money for a paint job and a tart up to us, but each to their own.
McLaren is currently in the midst of a busy rollout phase, with its flagship P1 supercar set to debut at this week’s Paris motor show, and the kooky X-1 custom car having raised eyebrows at the Pebble Beach Concours last month.
Then there’s the limited-edition MP4-12C Project Alpha – a six-car consignment ordered by McLaren’s Chicago, USA, dealership.
Any takers for the third Singapore slingshot…?
