McLaren Senna LM revealed in Scotland
But it's not what you think, instead of a lighter faster road-legal Senna GTR the LM is merely a tribute to the original F1 LMThe mystery surrounding whether or not McLaren is readying an even faster road-legal version of its Senna GTR has been solved following images of a new 'LM' version have appeared online.
Overnight McLaren Glasgow in Scotland published the first pictures of the Senna LM – a reportedly limited run of 20 cars that pay tribute to the lighter, faster McLaren F1 LM that was produced back in the mid-nineties that paid tribute to the F1 GTR that won Le Mans back in 1995.
Hence why the Scottish dealer's Senna LM features Papaya Orange colour accents on the front splitter, door mirror caps, roof scoop and elements of the rear wing.
The special McLaren also features new centre-lock five-spoke rims that mimic the original F1's and new air extractors on the front fenders.
Inside, the LM gets orange seats and plenty of LM decals.
Sadly, carsales can exclusively reveal that the Senna LM is not a street-legal version of the Senna GTR as such a car has been ruled out internally.
According to an insider working closely on the Senna GTR project, a road-going version of the track-only hypercar will never happen because engineers soon realised in the process of converting it to be capable of being registered you ended up with a car so close to the standard Senna it became pointless.
Instead, it's thought the car revealed on Instagram by one of the car-maker's dealers is a private commission that's been carried out by McLaren's bespoke MSO operation.
The proof that's not a GTR with numberplates, says our insider, is the car pictured runs the standard car's aero and not the GTR's repositioned active aero rear wing, wider front and rear track, larger front spoiler and a GT3-inspired front splitter.
The Senna LM pictured also has glass side windows, airbags, an exhaust silencer and lacks the full integrated roll cage of the GTR.
Under the rear boot lid, with the secondary catalytic converter in place that's needed to pass emission regs, the Senna LM misses out on the GTR's 19kW power bump.
Although, few would complain with the standard car's 588kW and 800Nm that the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 pushes out, especially since the Senna can hit 100km/h in 2.8 seconds, 200km/h in 6.8sec and 0-300km/h in just 17.5 sec.
It's not known what premium McLaren Glasgow plans to charge over the standard Senna that sold in Australia for $A1.4 million (plus on-roads).
