Here's the first photos of the MD-X concept, following sketches that were released when Acura first announced in March it would redesign the current model to incorporate a more modern and sporty edge.
The concept car uses a wider track and longer wheelbase than the current MD-X and features 20-inch wheels and flared guards.
Acura says the concept gives an impression of its new luxury SUV which is expected for sale in US showrooms late August. Despite talk of a V8 version the 2007 production MD-X will be equipped with a V6 and Acura’s exclusive 'Super Handling All-Wheel Drive'.
"The smooth lines and sleek shape of the MD-X Concept challenge the conventions of SUV design," said Ricky Hsu, chief designer for the MD-X Concept.
"Our goal was to create the image of a sports sedan while maintaining generous interior volume and utility of a SUV."
