Melbourne car dealers to re-open
Automotive industry back in business across VictoriaMelbourne automotive businesses will be able to re-open their doors again from this Wednesday (October 28), when the auto industry returns to work across the state for the first time in months due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Scheduled servicing had been allowed under metropolitan Melbourne’s Stage 4 lockdown regulations, but now all auto businesses can buy, sell, service and/or repair vehicles under the relaxed rules announced this afternoon.
“VACC is pleased that all automotive businesses will open from Wednesday,” said the CEO of the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce, Geoff Gwilym.
Retail businesses in the southern state’s capital have been given the green light to begin preparations for a COVID-safe reopening, with staff now permitted to be on-site to ready businesses.
Businesses are permitted to re-open tomorrow, with no limits on the work performed, provided a ‘COVIDSafe Plan’ is in place, after the whole of Victoria moved from ‘stay home’ to ‘stay safe’ measures – meaning there are no longer restrictions on the reasons to leave home.
“The automotive industry is primed and ready for opening. VACC has provided its members with exhaustive information, including assisting with COVIDSafe plans, creating communication templates, and resources for staff and customers,” said Gwilym.
Victoria is now in the third stage of the state government’s roadmap to reopening and on its way to ‘COVIDNormal’ operations, but Victorians have been asked to remain vigilant.
Every Victorian business that is open must follow the six COVIDSafe principles to help prevent future outbreaks of COVID-19.
They include ensuring physical distancing, wearing a face mask, practicing good hygiene, keeping records and acting quickly, avoiding interactions in enclosed spaces and creating workforce bubbles.
Worker permits are no longer required unless a worker is travelling from Melbourne to regional Victoria (and vice-versa), but metropolitan Melburnians may still not travel within 25km from home and must work from home if they can.
The 25km limit on travel will be lifted at 11:59pm on Sunday, November 8.
