The Australian motor show circuit looks set to resume in 2015. But as part of the resumption, the Australian International Motor show (AIMS) joint venture partnership between the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) has been dissolved.
Both groups today 'mutually agreed' to end the joint venture after attempts to generate interest for the motor show failed. And, in a joint statement, have suggested a new look event will take place in Melbourne in 2015.
The last Australian International Motor Show was held in Sydney in October 2012. Although efforts to kick start the event took place, the 2013 AIMS to be held in Melbourne was cancelled, followed by the 2014 event scheduled for Sydney.
It is understood a lack of manufacturer interest was a key factor in the cancellations. A slump in public attendance was also cited.
The joint statement says: "VACC and FCAI have mutually agreed that the time is right to develop a new-look motor event, thus rendering redundant the existing business arrangement between the two organisations".
"Plans are at an advanced stage for a motoring event in Melbourne in 2015," stated the joint release.
The auto bodies claim importers, manufacturers and motoring clubs have been confirmed for the event, touted as "dynamic and interactive". Show goers will be able to "test drive a range of makes and models".
Established in 2009, the joint venture saw the annual Melbourne and Sydney motor shows merge, with the cities alternating hosting duties each year.
