Doncaster police were on patrol in Warrandyte in Melbourne’s outer north-east on early Wednesday morning when they came across a car blocking a lane on Yarra Road around 3am.
The Nissan Pulsar was missing its front left tyre and it was so damaged the rubber was no longer attached to the rim. The front bumper's clips had also dislodged from the body panels which were also dented. When police spoke to the alleged driver of the vehicle, the explanation they received was pure millennial gold.
The 19-year-old driver stated that the tyre had got a puncture but he decided to continue on driving until he couldn’t go any further as he didn’t know how to change a tyre.
The Police officers breath tested the Eltham man who returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.162. His licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
The driver and his passenger, a 22-year-old Ringwood man, both said it wasn’t their fault that they didn’t know how to change a tyre and blamed society for not teaching them.
Both men were also issued fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions at a cost of $1652 each.
Well since the 19 and 22-year-olds won't be heading out on a drive any time soon, we suggest they read a few of our advice articles on tyre changing. For anyone who doesn't know how to change a tyre, or drive safely please do your research before heading out on the roads.
