Limited-edition performance flagship pays tribute to Mercedes’ involvement with Formula 1 and will come to Oz
Mercedes-AMG has revealed a special-edition version of its new-generation Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance super sedan and it’s confirmed for Australian release.
Officially dubbed the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance F1 Edition, just 63 examples of the new mid-size high-performance sedan are headed Down Under, where the first examples will arrive in the third quarter of next year – a couple of months after the standard C 63 S E Performance.
Decked out with a series of unique exterior and interior touches, each of the five-dozen or so sedans will wear an exclusive ‘MANUFAKTUR alpine grey uni’ paint finish that fades to black around the lower edges of the body, with the colour transition further enhanced by a ‘AMG’ watermark.
A red trim strip then circumnavigates the bottom of the side skirts and bumpers as well as the black 20-inch alloy wheels to add an extra layer of contrast and menace.
Lurking behind the forged hoops is flattering a set of red brake callipers which only add to the new C 63’s purposefulness, as does the standard AMG Aerodynamics Package.
The AMG Night Packages I and II continue the darkened motorsport theme by blacking out virtually all of the exterior trim, including the carbon splitter, rear wing, exhaust outlets and grille louvres.
Step inside the cabin and you’ll find the contrasting black and red colour scheme is continued pretty well right the yay through by black Nappa leather upholstery, red stitching and embossing, red threaded carbon dash trim and illumination.
Even the seatbelts have been given a crimson makeover, matching nicely with the red stitching of the AMG F1 floor mats and the exclusive ‘Edition’ interior badging.
Also included in the yet to be confirmed price is a customised AMG indoor car cover stamped with an F1 logo.
No changes have been made to the fearsome 500kW/1060Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will still return a respectable fuel consumption figure of just 6.9L/100km despite the monstrous outputs.
“The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance is a real game-changer in the 55-year history of AMG,” said Mercedes-Benz.
“With the exclusive exterior and interior features of the special ‘F1 Edition’ model, Mercedes-AMG is now making the electrified future even more visible.”
As alluded to above and in keeping with previous AMG market strategies, Australia will only receive the sedan body type of both the F1 Edition and the standard C63 S E Performance, the latter of which will arrive here in mid-2023.
Pricing and finer specification details of both models are yet to be confirmed.
