Mercedes-AMG will replace the last-generation C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series with an even more extreme version, say new reports.
According to Car and Driver, the German high-performance division will rename its flagship rival for the BMW M4 GTS the C 63 R -- sharing the same nomenclature with the AMG GT R.
From then on, Mercedes-AMG will follow the traditional Black Series formula except with everything turned up to 11.
That means the new C 63 R will be lighter, more powerful and come with an advanced new aero.
Created to be the fastest, most track-focused C-Class ever, the US mag says that the hotter C 63 will come with lightweight carbon-fibre roof and front wings that will be considerably wider than the standard car to accommodate a completely bespoke new suspension set-up.
In total, AMG engineers should easily carve 100kg off the C 63 S' portly 1725kg kerb weight, especially if it offers an even more extreme rear-seat delete option.
Under the bonnet the C 63 R will get a more powerful version of its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8.
Instead of the usual 375kW/700Nm, expect the C 63 R to produce around 450kW/850Nm -- the same as the current E 63 S.
With that level of power expect it to eclipse the 3.9 seconds the regular car takes to reach 100km/h with a time of comfortably less than 3.5 seconds.
Top speed should be around 320km/h.
Set to arrive in 2018, Car and Driver has tipped AMG to also offer the C 63 R as a sedan too.
