Mercedes-Benz has stunned Munich show-goers this week with the unveiling of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Concept E Performance, which adds a 620kW 4.0-litre V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain to the small coupe’s armoury.
Looking almost identical to the recently facelifted AMG GT, the new Mercedes-AMG GT Concept E Performance is identifiable by a new charging point that’s mounted on the rear bumper.
The concept also sports a new black and red livery, plus a pair of dark tinted headlights.

At the rear, the option box for the rear wing has been ticked. Look closer and you might also spot the larger 21-inch alloy wheels and powerful carbon-ceramic brakes that are likely to be standard.
Full details of the electrified powertrain have yet to be revealed, but we’re expecting the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 to be combined with a 150kW electric motor and a small 6.1kWh lithium-ion battery.
That should realise incredible outputs of 620kW and 1400Nm.
Set to weigh hundreds of kilos less than the 2023 AMG GT 63 S E Performance that shares the same powertrain, the electrified AMG GT coupe should scorch from 0-100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds and top out at more than 330km/h.

For now, it’s not been confirmed when Mercedes-AMG plans to roll out what could be its fastest-ever road car this side of the ONE hypercar, but next year seems a safe bet.
As well as the electrified AMG GT, it’s rumoured the performance division will also squeeze the plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet of the new AMG-developed SL.
This 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 E Performance could share the same 590kW output with the less-powerful S 63 E Performance limo that has already been launched.
