Mercedes-AMG has teased two images of what could be a wild all-electric or hybrid V8-powered hypercar inspired by the 2023 Vision One-Eleven hypercar EV concept.
Looking like it is painted in the exact same shade of copper-orange alubeam as the original, the German brand’s performance division has been careful not to release details of its latest creation, only captioning the two images: “First sneak before it’s showtime. Something big is right around the corner. All eyes on #AFFASTERBACH. You won’t want to miss this.”
While the first picture appears to match the Vision One-Eleven’s bonnet, the second image of what looks like a removeable roof panel appears completely alien to the original hypercar concept, suggesting a radical redesign.
Mercedes-AMG has long been rumoured to be working on an all-electric successor to the AMG ONE hypercar that will be based on the division’s next-generation AMG.EA platform.
If so, the new hypercar is expected to come with a 900-volt electrical system, an advanced high-power lithium-ion battery and four Yasa axial-flux e-motors that weigh just 24kg and produce 358kW and 800Nm each.
While the lithium-ion battery will be developed by the car-maker’s F1 team and feature cylindrical cells, reportedly sourced from US firm Sila Nanotechnologies, it’s thought Mercedes-AMG might have re-engineered the Vision One-Eleven to feature a range-extender hybrid powertrain, reflecting the poor uptake for all-electric hypercars.
If so, an electrified version of the firm’s M177 twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 should be mounted mid-ship and will produce epic power.
Expect more teasers in the build-up to the launch of Mercedes-AMG’s inbound hypercar, as well as the full reveal of the four-door 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT4 sedan that will share some key tech with the hypercar, including its Yasa motors.
