Mercedes-Benz C-Class and S-Class get AI multimedia tech

New over-the-air update introduces artificially intelligent home screen to car-maker’s MBUX infotainment system

Owners of the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206-series) and S-Class (W223) have been invited to install a new Zero Layer over-the-air software update to unlock new features for their car’s MBUX infotainment system.

Once downloaded, C-Class and S-Class drivers will gain access to the same intelligent home screen that was first introduced on the all-electric EQS limo and EQE sedan, in which new sticky tiles are overlayed on top of whatever you’re looking at.

The clever part is the system then learns from the driver what you use and when you use it. For example, if the driver calls their significant other from the same point every evening, the vehicle suggests a telephone call at the precise time or geolocation.

If the driver does not want to make the call, they can say “do not suggest now” or ask the system to permanently delete the recommendation by saying “do not suggest again”.

Created to make the MBUX system even more intuitive and simpler to use than ever before, the new Zero Layer is said to further reduce the need for users to scroll through distracting sub-menus.

The new OTA update also brings more than 20 additional functions that can be automatically offered, including everything from suggesting a relaxing massage during a long journey to asking if you want to check up on your connected smart home devices.

Available for free, the latest update to the MBUX infotainment system can be accessed via the car-maker’s app and downloaded in the background while on the move.

Mercedes-Benz says that if owners prefer to keep the original user menu, they can easily switch back and forth depending on their home screen preference.
