The all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV has had its cabin previewed months before its official unveiling on October 16.
The five new images reveal that the battery-electric large SUV will have an interior that’s almost identical to the closely related EQE sedan, with range-topping versions bagging the same full-width Hyperscreen digital instrument cluster and infotainment system that made its debut in the EQS limousine.
The MBUX Hyperscreen seamlessly merges three large screens into one, combining the driver’s display (12.3-inch), the central display (17.7-inch) and front passenger display (12.3-inch) into one connected visual unit that’s packaged under a single 55.5-inch glass cover that also slots in a pair of the brand’s trademark turbine-styled air vents.
The screens feature a scratch-resistant aluminium silicate glass coating, while the AI-augmented MBUX infotainment system comprises eight CPU cores with 24GB of RAM.
If that’s not enough, the massive widescreen is supplemented by an enormous 77-inch head-up display.
Lower-spec models are tipped to come with just the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a centrally mounted 12.8-inch infotainment screen.
As well as giving us our first look at the dash, Benz has also revealed that buyers of the EQE SUV will have the choice of five colour combinations to choose from when ordering their car, with a choice of either wood or aluminium trim.
If you’re wondering about what colour and trim package is demonstrated in the car pictured, wonder no more. Benz says its show car sports ‘modern balao brown’ leather with ‘technoid-looking neva grey and biscay blue/black’ trim.
As part of the preview, the German car-maker also confirmed its EQE SUV will be a five-seater, presumably ruling out any versions with an extra row of chairs.
Set to share powertrains with the EQE sedan, expect the entry-level EQE SUV to be badged the ‘350’ and come with a single rear-mounted electric motor that will deliver 215kW/530Nm and rear-wheel drive.
At the top of the tree will be the EQE SUV 53 4MATIC+ that’s already been spotted testing, bagging dual motors that pump out 460kW/950Nm and can be further boosted to 505kW/1000Nm with the AMG Dynamic Plus pack.
The latter should also provide for a rapid 0-100km/h sprint of around 3.5 seconds.
All models will source energy from a 90.6kWh battery pack, enabling a WLTP-rated range of between 500-600km and a maximum DC charging rate of 170kW that should add 250km of driving range after a quick 15-minute top-up.
Based on the same EVA2 platform as the larger EQS flagship electric sedan, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV should come with new tech like an advanced HEPA filter that virtually scrubs the air of all impurities as well as agility-boosting rear-axle steering.
More teasers are expected in the long build-up to the EQE SUV’s mid-October debut.
