Mercedes-Benz announces G-Class ute pricing

True hard-core German 4x4 cab/chassis ute is now available to the public

Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for the G-Professional Cab Chassis ute, which is now on sale in Australia.

Built at the same facility as the renowned G-Class off-road SUV and leveraging many years of the Geländewagen’s development, the 'G-Pro' will appeal to pick-up buyers who want true off-road ability.

The Toyota 70 Series rival, which is now the Australian army's vehicle of choice, is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine which produces 135kW of power at 3800rpm and 400Nm of torque from 1600 to 2000rpm, sending its power through a five-speed automatic transmission.

There is also a dual-speed transfer case and diff locks at the front, rear and centre.

Standard features include a snorkel, bull bar, headlight and indicator protection painted in black, radiator and sump shields, 16-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tyres.

The G-Professional Cab Chassis offers a 2085kg payload (4490kg GVM) without a tray and a braked towing capacity of 2250kg. Mercedes-Benz says the G-Pro will reach more places with the help of a reinforced chassis and suspension which offers 245mm of ground clearance, a 650mm fording depth and adjustable engine speed control.

A walk-on bonnet featuring reinforcement (load limit 100kg) and a non-slip coating is also available, as is a cyclone air-filter that is designed to separate dirt and dust from the air before entering the traditional air-filter under the bonnet.

Fitted with permanent all-wheel drive with a 50/50 front/rear split, the G-Professional has an approach angle of 38 degrees, departure angle of 35 degrees and a ramp-over angle of 22 degrees.

It has a recommended towing capacity of 2210kg (braked) and 750kg (unbraked), and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4490kg (almost five 4.5 tonnes).

Two 12-volt batteries are fitted, as well as tyre pressure monitoring. A spare wheel is supplied (loose) plus two wheel chocks. No tray is supplied at the time of sale.

Inside, the G-Professional offers extreme durability and practicality rather than luxury with vinyl seat covers, two water-drain plugs rubber floor mats and storage boxes under both seats. It does, however, offer air-conditioning, armrests for both driver and passenger, and a lockable glovebox.

The G 300 CDI Cab Chassis, to give it its full title, will retail with a manufacturer’s retail list price of $119,900 (plus on-road costs).
