It was Henry Ford who said "You can have any colour you like, as long as it’s black." And while his words reflected the stubborn nature of slow-drying paint technology at the time, Mercedes-Benz will purposefully encapsulate the idea of an all-black model range with its stunning Night Edition SL 350 Roadster.
The extremely limited run of Night Edition models, 25 in total, will be offered in two shades of black: a special matte finish known as 'designo magno' and a stealthy metallic finish dubbed 'obsidian black'.
Night Edition SL 350 models also add exclusive exterior appointments including 19-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels finished in high-sheen titanium grey; silver painted brake callipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering at the front; perforated front and rear disc brakes; darkened head and tail lamps; DISTRONIC autonomous cruise control; automated boot lid opening and closing; high-gloss finish door handle; shoulder line trim strip and door faceplate in high-gloss chrome; and "Night Edition" badging on the front guards.
Inside, the stealthy limited edition Roadster adds new Nappa leather seats with diagonal fluting, arrow-shaped seams and silver-coloured contrast elements; a sports steering wheel, gear knob and door linings in black with contrasting silver-coloured stitching; black ash wood trim highlights; sill panels with "SL 600" logo; embossed "Night Edition" seat backrests and floor mats; AIRSCARF with silver-coloured fans; and draught-stop with a high-gloss chrome trim strip.
"With the SL being the longest running continuous nameplate in the automotive industry, there have been many special SL's produced over its 57 year run," said Mercedes-Benz Cars Managing Director, Mr Horst von Sanden.
"We have during the last 57 years debuted some very special features on SL-Class and the Night Edition continues that tradition to start off the next 57 years of SL.
"With the SL 350 Night Edition we have used the opportunity to provide a unique encompassing of the SL core values of luxury, safety, dynamics, performance and exclusivity.
"We have been able to secure twenty five of this truly limited run SL for our local customers, half of which will be painted in the stunning designo magno Night black.
"The SL 350 Night Edition is truly an exclusive and bespoke vehicle."
Regardless of which black you prefer, the Mercedes-Benz SL 350 Night Edition Roadster is priced from $246,000 and will be in Australian dealerships from July.
