Mercedes-Benz has given another subtle peek of its upcoming GLB Class SUV.
Weeks after we saw images of cladded test mules doing the rounds, ’Benz has now released a shadowy pic of the G-wagen themed high-rider, replete with the catchphrase: “Intelligent like a smartphone and as practical as a multitool.”
The solitary image gives away very little about the production car, first previewed by the Concept GLB at the Shanghai motor show, other than capturing a familiar roofline and immersive digital infotainment display – both present on the concept.
The GLB Class is set to be shown at the Frankfurt motor show in September, if not beforehand.
Set to sit above the GLA but below the GLC, the GLB replaces the old GLK SUV that sold in Europe but was never available in right-hand drive for markets like Australia – not a mistake Mercedes is expected to make with the new GLB.
Differentiating itself from its smaller GLA sibling, the GLB will feature more overt off-roader looks and boast a roomier cabin and more luggage space.
Under the bonnet, the A-Class’ family of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesels will be offered, with powerful AMG GLB 35 and GLB 45 models expected thereafter.
When it goes on sale around 2020, the small Mercedes GLB is set to rival the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Jaguar E-PACE.
