Mercedes-Benz shows more of pure-electric EQC SUV

German car-maker gives a glimpse of new all-electric SUV's rear-end styling ahead of unveil in a week's time

Mercedes-Benz has released yet another picture of its production-ready pure-electric EQC SUV ahead of its launch on September 4.

The latest pic, posted overnight on the brand's Instagram account, reveals an undisguised image of the Jaguar I-PACE rival's rear styling.

Mirroring the front-end design, the rear of the EQC gets a full-length LED light bar. The slim tail-lights also suggest the breakthrough battery-powered SUV will stay true to the original 2016 Paris motor show concept's styling.

Confirmed for a launch in Stockholm on September 4, the EQC will be the first model launched by Benz's EQ sub-brand and the first vehicle to be based on the car-maker's all-new electric car architecture.

Mercedes has yet to confirm exact specifications for the EQC, but it's thought the entry-level model will come with a 70kWh lithium-ion battery that will provide for a range of around 500km.

Despite the availability of a base model, Mercedes-Benz Australia has already hinted to motoring.com.au that the rear-wheel drive pure-electric SUV might not make the trip Down Under.

Instead, the EQC models we're likely to get will be range-topping versions with all-wheel drive, courtesy of front- and rear-mounted motors that individually drive each axle.

Expected to generate a combined 300kW and 700Nm, the fastest EQC should hit 100km/h in less than five seconds.

In Europe, Mercedes-Benz has priced the EQC from the equivalent of about $117,000 ($2000 less than the Jaguar I-PACE), but it's likely to cost more than that when it arrives in Australia in early 2019.
