Mercedes-Benz has sharpened its minibus offering with its new 12-seater Sprinter Transfer, which is now on sale in Australia.
From aged-care facilities to schools, community clubs, airport transfers and more, the brand says the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer delivers an improved experience for drivers and passengers alike, the two-model line-up now benefitting from a range of ergonomic, convenience and safety features.
The upgrades span keyless starting, an optimised roof-mounted air-conditioning system, new passenger seating with reclining seat backs and folding armrests, and passenger smartphone storage pockets with USB charging points.
The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer is based on the latest Sprinter LCV platform that arrived in 2018.
The standard-roof, medium-wheelbase minibus is powered by a 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel available in two ratings: 105kW/330Nm in the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer 414CDI or 120kW/360Nm for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer 416CDI.
Feeding drive to the rear wheels is the sole transmission choice of a Mercedes-Benz 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic. Fuel capacity is 71 litres for both variants.
Both variants also have a GVM of 4100kg. The Sprinter Transfer 414CDI has a maximum payload of 1465kg, while the 416CDI comes in at 10kg less. Both have a maximum braked towing limit of 2000kg.
The list of standard active and passive safety gear is extensive, spanning autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, driver fatigue alert, a reversing camera, crosswind assist, and front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger.
Factory options range from adaptive cruise control to dynamic lane keeping and a parking assistance package with 360-degree camera.
Along with the extra power and torque, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer 416CDI builds on the 414CDI with a chrome grill, alloy wheels, fogs lamps, high-performance headlamps and partial LED tail lights, overhead comfort control panel, electric rear sliding door, and auto lights and wipers.
The new 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer is fitted with the brand's MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system with integrated telematics and standard 7.0-inch touch-screen (or optional 10.25-inch head unit).
The MBUX system offers a comprehensive raft of voice commands, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and satellite navigation (optional with 7.0-inch unit but standard with 10.25-inch).
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Transfer has service intervals of up to a maximum of 40,000km or two years, and a factory warranty of five years or 250,000km, whichever comes first. Standard Roadside Assist coverage is provided for the duration of the factory warranty, while Mercedes-Benz offers a range of ServiceCare 'pay as you go' and capped-price servicing options.
