Mercedes-Benz X 350 d 2019 Tow Test Video

It’s got plenty of grunt and gloss but can the top-shelf Mercedes-Benz X 350 d ute live up to its 3500kg tow rating?
Review Type
Tow Test

With a 3500kg tow rating and a silky 190kW/550Nm single-turbo diesel V6 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, the range-topping Mercedes-Benz X 350 d 4MATIC Power looks the goods on paper for towing a big caravan or boat trailer.

Throw in permanent four-wheel drive with low-range gearing and rear diff lock, and some bling like a 360-degree camera and aluminium dash trim – all part of the Power pack – along with segment-leading safety features including seven airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, autonomous emergency braking, active lane keeping assist, trailer sway control and tyre pressure monitoring, and the Mercedes-Benz X 350 d 4MATIC Power makes a lot of sense for work and play.

The one thing holding it back in this guise is the $80,000 price tag – and that’s not including options – that makes the Mercedes-Benz X 350 d 4MATIC Power seem pricey compared to grunty dual cab rivals like the V6 Volkswagen Amarok and Bi-Turbo Ford Ranger.
