Mercedes C-Class hunts bargain shoppers
Limited edition C-Class Sports Pack offers a lot more flash for a little more cashFor a measly premium, in base sedan form, of less than $2800 above the regular recommended retail price, Mercedes-Benz is seeking our prestige bargain hunters with limited edition Sports Package versions of its C 200 Kompressor and C 220 CDI sedan and wagon models.
With a smattering of detail embellishments outside and in, the C-Class Sports Package is probably most notable for its asymmetric front/rear wheel and tyre combinations.
The twin-spoke alloy wheels are unique to the limited edition pack and measure 7.5Jx17 at the front and 8.5Jx17 rear. Similarly, the tyres measure 225/45R17 at the front, and 245/40R17 at the rear.
The idea is to give the C 200 Kompressor/220 CDI a touch of the further upmarket C 280 Avantgarde (RRP $87,694) with an identical grille featuring matt silver finish, chrome inlays and an integrated three-pointed star.
Other external touches include chrome trim on the front and rear bumpers, door sills, boot lid handle and fog light surrounds. And the tail lights get a dark grey tint.
Inside, the Sports Package includes combination ARTICO/fabric upholstery, ambient lighting, aluminium trim and a stowage compartment with cup holders in the rear centre armrest.
The C 200 Kompressor's supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine produces 135kW and 250Nm, consuming 8.1L/100km on the combined cycle, while the C 220 CDI's 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel produces 125kW and 400Nm, and consumes 6.7L/100km.
Mercedes-Benz says the limited edition Sports Package represents savings of better than $5000 over comparably-equipped C-Class sedan models.
The Sports Package can be had in a choice of three colours: Obsidian Black metallic, Iridium Silver metallic and non-metallic Calcite White.
