Got a spare half million lying around? That will put you into the Mercedes-Maybach S 600... with change to spare.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has revealed today that the XL S-Class (there's an XXL Pullman model in the pipeline too) will be priced at $449,000 when it arrives here late in the year. That places it above the Bentley Flying Spur in the pecking order of near mega-luxury stretched sedans.
In just the one variant, powered by a 6.0-litre V12 producing 390kW and 830Nm, the Maybach dashes to 100km/h in exactly five seconds, the manufacturer claims.
At 5.4m in length – 20cm longer than the standard (already) long-wheelbase S-Class – the Maybach S 600 not only delivers enhanced rear-seat legroom, it also provides extra headroom back there. And for the ultimate in rear-seat comfort – which is the whole point of this car – the Maybach comes with massaging seats that employ the 'hot-stone' principle.
Throughout the cabin, trim materials include woodgrain and Nappa leather, complemented by a Burmester 3D audio system and an IWC analogue clock in the front. Additionally, the standard equipment list for the Maybach S 600 extends to Air-Balance Package, Chauffeur package, Front and Rear Comfort packages, Executive rear seats with adjustable back rests, Front Seat Entertainment Package with Splitview, a Head-Up Display, Luxury front and rear seats, Magic Body Control, Magic Vision Control, Night View Assist Plus, Pre-Safe Rear package and Touchpad.
Standard safety features include Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian detection, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, Brake Assist BAS Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus. Other safety features are the seat belt buckle extender, beltbag and seat cushion airbag.
"Perfection down to the last detail and a new dimension in seating and resting comfort for the rear passengers are the hallmarks of the new Mercedes-Maybach", says Dr Thomas Weber, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.
"Our exceptionally successful new S-Class already defines the pinnacle of automotive engineering in a host of technical disciplines such as safety, efficiency, climate control and noise characteristics. The Mercedes-Maybach now sets the benchmark in the luxury segment even higher."
