Facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet previewed

Coupe and drop-top E-Class two-doors set to benefit from latest sedan and wagon's upgrades

Mercedes-Benz has begun teasing both the E-Class Coupe and E-Class Cabriolet in the build up to their launch online on May 27.

Set to benefit from all the revisions received by the 2020 E-Class sedan and wagon, the sportier two-door coupe and convertible models should come with a fresh face, redesigned rear-end and several big tech upgrades that improve its semi-autonomous driving aids.

Up front, the mid-life refresh of both cars will bring a pair of more streamline LED headlight clusters that come with optional 'ultra-range' high-beams for improved night-time illumination.

The tail-lights meanwhile, should look similar but include new LED signatures.

New alloy wheels, paint options and, possibly, revised aero upgrades on sportier models complete the mild exterior changes.

As far as tech goes, there's been some bigger changes. In comes an active steering assist system that will help the driver maintain their lane positioning, while the adaptive cruise control system will now feature an active stop and go function to manage traffic jams.

Upgraded versions of active blind spot assist, brake assist and the E-Class' autonomous cruise control systems are also said to be more accurate and safer.

Inside, the current E-Class keeps its large dual-screen instrument panel/infotainment screen set-up, but the latter should incorporate the car-maker's latest MBUX operating system featuring AI voice control.

Finally, a new range of leather interiors, including a vegan-friendly option, are also available.

Under the bonnet a range of updated 48-volt mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines are expected, which will be see the flagship Mercedes-AMG E 53 powered by a 320kW/520Nm turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder augmented by a starter-generator to deliver an extra 16kW/249Nm for punchier acceleration.
