Mercedes teases all-new Sprinter van

Mercedes-Benz has again teased its all-new, third-generation Sprinter ahead of its official unveiling at a VIP event in Germany on February 6, with the firm releasing an image and a short video clip.

This time, the single image tweeted by Mercedes-Benz Vans presents a darkened front-on view of an undisguised Sprinter, while the 26-second clip reveals a number of tightly cropped details of the new LCV.

The image makes it clear the next instalment of Mercedes' volume-selling delivery van will come with a pair of large triangular headlights flanking an enormous grille with a silver three-pointed star of epic proportions.

This latest tease follows on from December's full reveal of the Sprinter's new car-like interior.

Back then, Mercedes-Benz confirmed the Sprinter would come with high levels of connectivity including a WiFi connection for the first time.

Incorporating Benz's IT infrastructure and inventory control system into its large infotainment system, the new Sprinter also promises advanced telematics not yet seen in the commercial vehicle sector, thanks to an array of embedded sensors.

Set to be launched as a delivery van, passenger can and cab chassis, the 2019 Sprinter -- as seen in the accompanying video -- also brings new electric seats, a multi-function steering wheel and plenty of USB charging points.

It's also thought the German van-maker will offer Sprinter buyers the option of a semi-autonomous cruise control system as part of a range of "comprehensive driver assistance systems".

As well as enhanced tech inside, Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed two new pure-electric versions, with the eSprinter to follow the smaller eVito now on sale in Europe, in 2019.

The battery-powered version will go on sale globally following the launch of the new Sprinter in Australia in the fourth quarter of this year.
