Unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show, the MG 07 is the latest sedan from SAIC-owned MG.

Positioned as a midsize model, it measures 4886mm long, 1900mm wide and 1478mm tall, riding on a 2825mm wheelbase.

Inside, the MG 07 adopts a wraparound cabin layout centred around a 15.6-inch infotainment display and digital instrument cluster.

Power comes from a Qualcomm 8295P cockpit processor running MG's Inspiration OS software.

Higher-spec variants can be equipped with LiDAR hardware and MG says the vehicle uses a driver assistance platform developed with Momenta.

Comfort-focused features include heated and ventilated front seats, a zero-gravity front passenger seat, heated and ventilated rear seats, a panoramic glass roof and a 21-speaker audio system. An active electromagnetic suspension system is also available.

Electric versions of the MG 07 ride on an 800-volt electrical architecture and are powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing either 176kW and 300Nm or 235kW and 350Nm depending on variant.

Battery options include 67kWh and 91kWh packs, delivering claimed CLTC ranges of 610km, 650km and up to 845km.

Notably, the two 610km variants use semi-solid-state battery technology supplied by Chinese tech company Qingtao.

The plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 82kW with an electric motor generating 152kW.

MG claims the hybrid can travel up to 245km on electric power alone under the CLTC cycle, while fuel consumption is rated at 2.91L/100km once the battery is depleted.

When fully charged and fuelled, MG says the MG 07 PHEV can cover up to 1745km between stops.

The Road Ahead

MG has confirmed deliveries of 650km EV variants will begin in China before the end of August, while the flagship 845km versions are scheduled to arrive from October.

There is currently no confirmation of Australian plans for the MG 07, though the model highlights the brand's continuing push into longer-range EV and plug-in hybrid technology.
