MG eZS is Chinese brand's first pure-electric car

Battery-powered MG eZS set to go on sale in 2019; could be rolled out to other markets after that

MG has unveiled the MG eZS -- a battery-powered version of the ZS compact SUV that's on-sale Down Under -- ahead of its launch in 2019.

The pure-electric small SUV was revealed at the 2018 Guangzhou Auto Show in China -- the market its first plug-in model has been created for.

The eZS is thought to be powered by a single electric front motor that produces around 110kW, but MG has not confirmed how energy dense its lithium-ion batteries are. On the NEDC test cycle, however, MG says the zero-emission SUV can cover 431km between charges.

Following its launch in China in 2019, the MG eZS is tipped to be introduced in Europe before potentially a launch in Australia -- but only if demand for battery-electric vehicles increases.
