MG tackles supply issues with first dedicated, direct ship-load

Express shipment direct from Shanghai delivers more than 3100 new MGs to Australia

MG Motor has tackled Australia’s automotive supply crisis head-on by landing its first full ship-load of new vehicles direct from China last week.

Owned by MG parent company SAIC, the Viking Emerald cargo vessel arrived in Port Kembla last Friday (May 12) with more than 3100 new MG hatchbacks and SUVs on board, after travelling from Shanghai with no stops.

Accounting for the entirety of the ship’s manifest, the shipment contained examples of most key MG models and variants, including the ZST small SUV, its new ZS EV Long Range electric sibling and the plug-in hybrid HS +EV medium SUV.

The latest MG shipment is part of a larger allocation of about 25,000 new MGs to arrive so far this year in Australia, where the Chinese brand currently lies seventh on sales ladder with 15,848 sales.

Apart from having more cars to sell, MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao said he appreciated a lot of local families were doing it tough at the moment and wanted to do his part in making life easier.

“Time and time again, we see people feeling overwhelmed because of the pressures that they face as part of modern life,” he said.

“The least I can do is show how much we care and say thank you by delivering their car as soon as possible.

“Australian new car buyers appreciate value and choice, and we are grateful for our customers’ continued support so we are doing our best to support them.”

Part of this support is the rollout of more budget-friendly electrified vehicles like the aforementioned ZS EV and HS +EV, and the upcoming MG4 electric hatch.
