MG’s luxury IM Motors IM5 and IM6 priced

Local pricing announced for looming luxury all-electric sedan and SUV

Local pricing for MG’s premium offering has been revealed, with the entry version of the all-new IM5 sedan and IM6 SUV both priced from $60,990 drive away, with deliveries to commence in coming months.

Set to be sold under the ‘IM Presented by MG Motor’ banner, early reports suggested the new premium brand might be positioned as a BMW or Mercedes-Benz alternative, but even the quickest flagship dual-motor IM6 Performance AWD is priced from a relatively modest $80,990 drive away.

A size larger than the Tesla Model 3 and the Tesla Model Y, the IM6 measures in at 4904mm long, 1988mm wide and 1699mm high, with the IM5 measuring 4931mm long, 1960mm wide and 1471mm tall. Both roll on identical 2950mm wheelbases.

Based on the brand’s Scalable Modular Platform that is related to the same platform that underpins the MG4 hatch, the IM5 and IM6 both get a more powerful 800-volt electric architecture for faster charging.

When they land in dealers, the IM5 and IM6 will be available in three model grades: Premium, Platinum and Performance.

The base Premium models will be powered by a single e-motor that drives the rear wheels and produces 217kW and 450Nm. Combined with a 75kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the IM5 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and can cover up to a claimed 450km on a single charge, with a fast DC charge rate of up to 153kW.

Against the clock, the IM5 makes the 0-100km/h dash in 6.8 seconds.

The IM6 Premium SUV rides on larger 20-inch wheels but can still manage 450km on a full charge, according to the WTLP test cycle.

Choose the base variant and you get agility-enhancing four-wheel steering and a grey faux-leather interior, a 26.3-inch widescreen display that packages the digital instrument cluster and a further 10.5-inch touchscreen. Both a panoramic roof and a 20-speaker sound system are also standard.

The Premium also comes with a 360-degree camera, a digital key and artificial intelligence (AI) functionality that’s thought to include an advanced onboard assistant.

The more expensive mid-spec $69,990 (drive away) IM5 Platinum gets a much bigger 100kWh lithium battery pack, plus a punchier rear e-motor that musters an impressive 300kW and 500Nm.

Those figures translate into a 0-100km/h sprint of 4.9 seconds, an impressive 699km WLTP range and an astonishing charging rate that rockets up to 396kW, with a 30-80 per cent top-up said to take just 15.2 minutes.

The IM6 SUV shares identical specs with the sedan, says MG’s consumer website.

At the top of the tree is the $80,990 (drive away) IM5 Performance sedan, which keeps the 100kWh battery but adds another 200kW e-motor that drives the front wheels and pushes total output to a potent 572kW and 802Nm.

With that level of power, the 0-100km/h dash takes just 3.2 seconds, while the fast sedan can still drive up to 575km (WLTP) on a single charge.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, air suspension and adaptive dampers.

The IM6 Performance SUV, meanwhile, rides on larger-still 21-inch alloy wheels. It has a claimed range of 505km, with a 0-100km/h dash of 3.4 seconds.

Instead of the leading 10-year/250,000km protection MGs comes standard with, the IM5 and IM6 get a seven-year all-inclusive warranty that requires both the sedan and SUV to be maintained by the IM dealer network.

Launched in China back in 2020, the IM5 and IM6 were developed by MG’s parent SAIC Motor with the cooperation of multiple tech companies that include China’s Alibaba Group and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech.

MG says the order book for the 2025 MG IM5 and IM6 is open now, ahead of customer deliveries that commence in around 12 weeks’ time.
