
Michelin, namesake and great-grandson of the company's co-founder Edouard, drowned in an accident reportedly off the Ile de Sein island in Brittany, western France, while on a fishing trip late last week.
Respected among France's business elite, he is credited with modernising the company to its current success with the introduction of modern technology such as run-flat tyres. An engineer trained at the Ecole Centrale de Paris, Michelin joined the tyre company in 1985 and held various posts in the fields of research, production and sales. He was 43.
The company said in a statement that Michel Rollier, its current co-managing partner would "ensure the continuity of the group's management".
