Middle East's first homegrown supercar

Get set for the first supercar from Lebanon... yes, Lebanon. And it comes with diamond-encrusted LED lights

The Middle East consumes its fair share of supercars, but the region has yet to actually contribute its own interpretation of the genre... until now.

The rendering alongside is the handiwork of Lebanon-based W Motors, which presented the concept to a large gathering at a swanky function in Beirut recently, and the company touts itself as the “first Arab brand of hyper-cars”.

Its sharp-edged coupe concept is dubbed the Hyper-sport, and it will allegedly be unveiled in Dubai in December, ahead of an appearance at the 2013 Qatar motor show next January.

First deliveries are expected to start by end of 2013, says the company, with production being limited to just five units. There is as yet no word on pricing, but we’re expecting a telephone-number pricetag – that’s if the real article ever sees the light of day.

For what it’s worth, the company has recruited some high-profile industry partners for the project, including Magna Steyr and RUF Automobile, which is best known for its Porsche-tweaking prowess.

W Motors boss Ralph Debbas says: “We will be launching two different lines of vehicles, the Hyper-sport and the Super-sport. Our first model, the Hyper-sport, will be limited to five cars worldwide and will be labeled as the most exclusive high-performance car ever made.”

Among the car’s USPs will be diamond-encrusted LED lights, which the company claims will make it the “most luxurious sports car in the world”.

In addition, the Hyper-sport will allegedly be the first and only car to ever integrate a fully functional holographic display with interactive motion. Exactly what purpose this feature will serve remains to be seen.

The company’s blurb adds: “This car is simply unique in every single way; every element has been meticulously engineered to give the right balance between power, torque and speed, delivering the ultimate driving machine for a unique driving experience.”

According to the press bumpf, company boss Debbas graduated from Coventry University’s School of Art and Design with a major in Automotive Design.

He is said to have “finalised numerous awarded concepts in Europe and worked on building a sizeable network within the automotive industry, leading him to the creation of W Motors”.

All very interesting, but any bets on whether this project goes any further or is quietly shelved after the initial hype?
