Million-plus HSV GTSR W1 pair up for sale

A pair of 2017 Holden Special Vehicles GTSR W1s listed for sale on carsales looks set to break the price record for Australian-made cars – again.

The HSV GTSR W1 sedan – the most powerful production vehicle ever produced in Australia – and one of just four supercharged W1-spec Maloo utes produced are owned by the same long-term HSV board member and have effectively never left the organisation’s Clayton HQ.

HSV’s GTSR W1 was an effective swansong for the specialist Holden hot shop. Based on the last-generation VF Commodore of 2017, the W1 is powered by a 474kW supercharged LS9 V8.

The same powertrain was fitted to just four HSV GTSR Maloo utes for development work. The one for sale here is a sister car to the vehicle that fetched $1.05 million at auction in January, setting a new record for an Australian-made model at the time.

Both cars for sale are manuals and mileage on both is negligible.

The ad for the HSV GTSR W1 sedan reads: “The real deal. Offered for sale for the first time. Never left the building, part of a long term employee's collection. 150kms only. Comes with limited edition watch and number plates (VIC). Genuine enquiries only please.”

It is priced at $499,000.

The carsales listing for the HSV GTSR Maloo W1 reads: “The legend. Extraordinarily limited edition A fitting final to the Maloo series, W1 Maloo, one of only a handful. This vehicle is part of a long time employee's collection, and has never left the premises. The only one in red colour. A must for the serious Australian muscle, and HSV collector. Genuine enquiries only.”

It is priced at $1,150,000.

While the cars are listed separately, insiders suggest that a deal could be struck for someone wishing to purchase the pair.

The values of Australian muscle-cars have been appreciating strongly in recent times. Just last month, a classic 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III was sold at auction for a new record of $1.15m.
