Volkswagen, like many others, maintained an upbeat stance at the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show by using the new Golf VI as its main focus.
Of special significance was the fact that the new models start at the same price as the outgoing Golf V base model with an opening gambit of $25,990 for the petrol-engined, 90kW TSI (more here).
With the launch model range topping out at the $35,690 DSG transmission 103kW turbodiesel Comfortline, Volkswagen Group Australia's Managing Director Jutta Dierks said this year's Melbourne International Motor Show signalled the company's biggest presence ever and ushered in a new era of fuel-efficiency and green technology for the company.
The Golf VI shares no body panels apart from the roof with the outgoing Golf V and is claimed to be safer, better finished and far more refined.
