MIMS: More punch, less fuel for hybrid Lexus RX
RX450h Lexus gets 20 more kilowatts; consumes up to 12 per cent less unleadedLexus has upped the power and torque of its hybrid RX model while significantly improving economy in the latest RX 450h presented at the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show.
Underpinned by an all-new 3.5-litre V6, the RX450h produces a total power output of 220kW yet returns fuel consumption averages 8 to 12 per cent better than the outgoing RX400h.
While not quoting exact figures, Lexus says the 450h is virtually as economical as an average four-cylinder family sedan (i.e. Camry).
The improvements come from a holistic approach to squeezing more efficiency out of the big hybrid. According to Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Roca, Lexus engineers are "finding ways to improve the efficiency in virtually every aspect of the hybrid system."
The new Lexus SUV will go on sale in Australia around the middle of year at an as-yet undisclosed price. The current Lexus RX400h is priced at a recommended retail of $98,000.
