A field of twenty cars will compete in the MINI Challenge for 2008, promising very close racing from the new R56 models and -- for the first time -- introducing the series to Aussie racetracks.
The inaugural event for 2008 will be held at Eastern Creek on March 7 to 9. Organisers have already flown the cars into Sydney and the drivers will receive a handover on February 20 at Oran Park.
Eastern Creek is the first of eight Australian rounds for the one-make series, -- and as we reported previously (more here) -- will be held in conjunction with V8 Supercar races around the country. Other local venues for the series will include Bathurst, Sandown, Phillip Island and Barbagello.
The cars themselves are the turbocharged Cooper S models, built at MINI's Oxford plant and then modified for the racing series.
