MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo

British brand bucks the videogame concept trend with conservative visuals

MINI has revealed a giant-killing 295kW prototype design in the form of its Clubman Vision Gran Turismo concept car, for use in the Gran Turismo 6 videogame.

Although the engine type has not been revealed, MINI says the wild wagon racer scorches to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, thanks to all-wheel drive and a six-speed sequential transmission.

Other noteworthy features in the fantasy car include fully adjustable dampers front and rear to "ensure an optimum connection with the road" says the German-owned British brand.

The design is instantly recognisable as a MINI, only more focused. New design features include lowered ride height, lower roof, aggressive aerodynamic aids and more fluid body work. Up front are elliptical LED headlights with an 'X' motif, plus there's body stripes and stylised brake lights.

It rides on massive 22-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and according to the maths done by MINI and the boffins who make the videogame, Digital Polyphony, the maximum speed of the virtual race car is 290km/h.

"The MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo combines all the hallmark MINI design features presented in the sportiest and most exciting style. A MINI like this has never been seen before," exhorts Christopher Weil, Head of MINI Exterior Design.

It's true there has been no other MINI like this one, but almost all of the specially-created Vision Gran Turismo concepts penned by esteemed real life car designers for the Gran Turismo 6 Sony Playstation videogame have been flagrantly radical designs. Cars such as the Mazda LM 55, Chevrolet Chaparral 2X and Mitsubishi XR PHEV Evolution to name a few.

But not this one.

MINI had perhaps decided its upcoming second-generation Clubman needs some extra promotion and as such penned a remarkably subdued design, comparatively speaking.
