MINI concept points the way

It might be labeled a concept, but this long wheelbase MINI points the way for the third model in the reborn marque's line-up.

Forty-five years after the launch of the original Mini Traveller (wagon) in September 1960, the MINI Concept Frankfurt re-interprets the feel of the original British-built Traveller. Says MINI, it pays tribute to its forebear through its "elegant Estate design with symmetrically split double doors at the rear and split side windows for second row passengers."

MINI says the idea behind the Concept Frankfurt was to make loading and entering the car as convenient as possible.

All four doors feature with parallelogram hinge mechanisms allowing the doors to swivel to the side and forward in one movement. This allows optimum access to the interior.

The rear sliding windows open electrically, and the front section slides back behind the rear.

The supercharged Concept features striking Satellite Silver paintwork. The interior features free-floating driver and front passenger seats, an innovative rear access system and a versatile slide-out cargo area.
